The Tipping Point: Hugh Decides to Train Others
“Hey Burt, this is unbelievable! There has to be 100 people in this room who paid (name withheld to avoid a costly lawsuit) thousands, plus the cost of coming to Florida for this seminar. We were supposed to watch (name withheld to protect the guilty) trade live, but he’s done none of that!” I continued, “But the worst part is, he’s insulting us! So far, (name withheld, not sure why anymore) has called us ignorant, stupid idiots and morons… and we just continue to admire him in awe! What the hell is going on?” True words uttered in bewilderment.
That was my tipping point.I realized then that there was a voracious appetite for trading knowledge. We seek someone to teach us how to make money in the market, at almost any cost. We search out gurus for strategy, profitable stocks and more. In fact, we keep looking for that pot of gold, believing that someone other than ourselves knows more than we do. Traders: insecure people with lots of money.
I realized, too, that in the end, no one knows anything, much less this fool at the front of the room who has picked our pockets for thousands of dollars. We now know how he makes his money.
I also realized that if I was ever blessed with being able to teach others, that I would treat them with the utmost respect and dignity for this honor. I will never forget my roots and if I can help cut the learning curve, I would be forever grateful.
One person in that hotel meeting room was a gentleman by the name of Tibor. I remember because I had a college classmate with that same unusual name of Hungarian origin. Interestingly enough, we currently have a Tibor as a Trading Room member, many years after that first encounter.
